About Me
I’m Dr. Cordelia Galgut, an experienced Chartered and Registered Counselling Psychologist and an Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
Qualifications
I hold a Doctorate, MA, and PGDip in psychology, counselling, and psychotherapy. I am a BPS Chartered Psychologist and Fellow, an HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist, and a Registered BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
It has been my privilege to support many people over the last few decades, in their pursuit of greater emotional well- being.
Since 1996, I have run my own private practice, providing, authentic and professional support.
My Approach
I am a general counsellor/psychotherapist, with the training and experience to support you with a wide range of issues, for example, relationships, bereavements, work stresses, the challenges of living with illness, both acute and chronic, feeling disempowered etc.
I have much experience of working with people of various genders, ages, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds.
As an integrative therapist, I take from a range of approaches, including client-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural (CBT) ones.
However, I believe that the likelihood of successful therapy lies mostly in the relationship we build together, creating a safe space where you feel comfortable, understood and accepted.
I always recommend starting with an initial meeting, in which we can both see how we feel. After this, we typically commit to four or five sessions, with a review after these, to ensure the therapy is meeting your needs.
Over the years, I have found my willingness to disclose a range of facts about myself, when appropriate, for example, my sexual orientation – bisexual- can really enhance the process and outcomes for my clients. Equally so since I was diagnosed with breast cancer, 20 years ago; also, that my wife and partner of 45 years has Alzheimer’s. Typically, my clients say that my disclosures help them accept things about themselves, their own trauma and difficulties in life, more easily. We’re all human, psychologists included. We all struggle and with good reason!
